The mission of The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center is to serve all youth of Orange County by providing quality outdoor educational programs that instill in them an appreciation of the outdoors and the environment, teach effective teamwork, instruct about the cultural history of Orange County and provide access to the natural resources of the surrounding areas. This 210-acre outdoor education center owned and operated by the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America. The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center (IROEC) Adventure Hill program features 7 days a week of experiential programming on our high and low adventure challenge course. Our Level II Section Leads can find themselves working Sunday-Saturday, typically 9:00am-5:00pm, with a potential for program training and preparation hours.  Our hands-on approach to our Adventure Hill programming allows participanttransformative opportunities towards personal growth and character development 


  • Minimum age requirement is 21. 
  • Have a current certification as site specific ACCT Level 2 Practitioner/COPE Level II OR COPE Director.  
  • Have an updated Portfolio demonstrating at least 250 hours of diverse facilitation experience80+ hours of Managerial experience in operating a ropes course program.    
  • Customer oriented   
  • Safety-oriented with regards to mitigating and preventing hazards 
  • Proactive and self-motivating; able to work independently 
  • Demonstrated experience working with a range of participants in a high adventure experiential or recreational setting. 
  • Implement quality high adventure programs that strives to empower participants in a supportive, transformative way. 
  • Maintains certification in Red Cross (or equivalent) certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED. 
  • Highly desired: Bilingual   


  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge and implementation of mandated course safety standards and regulations in accordance to the Association of Challenge Course Technologies (ACCT), the BSA National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP), and American Camp Association (ACA) and best industry practices. 
  • Responsible for supervising and overseeing, a minimum of one and possibly more, Adventure Hill programs by section(s):    
  • High Ropes   
  • Low Ropes/Ground Initiatives   
  • Climbing Tower   
  • Quad Zip Line   
  • Proficient in ACCT Level 2 operational tasks and rescue procedures for designated area(s) on Adventure Hill.   
  • Deliver high quality programming, personify professionalism, and exhibit excellent customer service to internal (staff) and external (guests) of the IROEC.   
  • Implement the IROEC Adventure Hill Emergency Action Plan (EAP) when necessary.   
  • Other duties as assigned, especially in relation to: 
  • Adventure Hill staff development and in-service training 
  • Assist Adventure Hill Director in overall administration of programs 
  • Collaborate with developing and implementing new programs/activities 
  • Course inspections and maintenance/inventory 
  • Delivery of timely and professional feedback about inventory, personnel or other. 
  • Eligible to be scheduled in other IROEC program areas based on certifications earned and bookings/needs of property  
  • Exceptional attention to detail concerning participants needs.  
  • Participates in Irvine Ranch and Orange County Boy Scouts of America staff meetings, training, and enhancement activities. 
  • Interacts professionally with colleagues and public. 
  • Works as part of the IROEC Staff team and use interpersonal communication techniques to ensure the success of the program and positive work environment. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move moderate to heavy objects, which requires frequent and proper bending.  
  • The employee must frequently be on their feet walking and hiking for distances up to 4 miles at a time.  
  • Employees must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.  
  • This position requires the employee to work outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions as well as dust, pollen, plant life, insects, and wildlife.
