The Adventure Hill Course Lead will be responsible directly to the Program Director of Development and Logistics, reporting through the Adventure Hill Director. This position is primarily responsible for providing a high-quality program and great customer service with our Adventure Hill Course programs.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Multiple positions available.

 Primary responsibilities:

  • Maintain current certification as an ACCT Level 2 Practitioner or Level 2 COPE & Climbing Instructor for Boy Scouts of America, or appropriate and equal experience through a certification with another professional program such as American Mountain Guides Association.
  • Oversees Adventure Hill program areas and ability to be onsite during active programs, including Low and High challenge course, Climbing Wall, and Zip Line ensuring areas are clean, safe, and well-maintained for our user groups for recreation, academic, and leadership programming.
  • Communicate inventory and maintenance requests for program area to the Adventure Hill Director.
  • Contribute to and lead course training opportunities for staff members, including maintaining knowledge of staff in need of re-certification, refresher or onboarding training when schedule permits.
  • Ensure that safety and protocol are followed in accordance to The Association of Challenge Course Technologies and American Camp Association.

 In communications:

  • Establish sound working relationships with staff to provide a high-quality program and friendly customer
  • Familiar with BSA and Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education

 In relations with the staff:

  • Assist the Program Director and Adventure Hill Director in designing comprehensive and high-quality training sessions for staff members regarding proper use of course operations.
  • Be available to staff members seeking further practice with Ropes Course program protocol.
  • Conduct regular observations of staff facilitating program at Ropes Course and provide feedback on performance to Adventure Hill Director and Program Director.
  • Ensure staff members are taking required breaks during work shift.
  • Maintain a climate that attracts and motivates a diverse staff of top qualified
  • Work cohesively and collaboratively with the Adventure Hill Director and fellow Course Leads to support overall

 Other:

  • Must be able to stand outside for long periods of time, and able to withstand exposure to heat, cold, and wind.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and lift objects and equipment up to 35 lbs.
  • Communicate with the Adventure Hill Director about personnel or safety concerns, and equipment needs.
  • Notify Adventure Hill Director about misuse, improper maintenance, or safety concerns for staff and participants.
  • Understand and follow protocol for emergency situations specific to The Adventure Hill Course and IROEC.
  • Request additional training opportunities (such as in-service) to be scheduled by the Adventure Hill Director.
  • Request personal professional development opportunities to be budgeted and approved by the Program Director.
  • Share ideas for future program development of Ropes Course with the Adventure Hill Director and Program Director.

 Education and Qualifications:

  • Highly Desired: Currently certified ACCT Level 2 Practitioner or Level 2 COPE/Climbing Instructor for Boy Scouts of America (C.O.P.E./Climbing Director); if not currently certified or trained, the IROEC is willing to invest training for the best candidate
  • Provide a Facilitator Portfolio demonstrating at least 200 hours of diverse facilitation experience.
  • Former managerial experience in operations of Ropes Course program.
  • At least 21 years of age.
