Position Description: The Program Specialist position is a part-time Scout Leader who will run multiple Scout programs in Orange County.  This is a Part-time position for a maximum of 25 hours a week.  Program Specialist will organize several field trips per school year and coordinate summer camping opportunities.

 Primary Responsibilities/Deliverables: The Program Specialist provides an active and imaginative after-school Scouting program and recruits parents to act as leaders beside them.  The Program Specialist is expected to be self-motivating, friendly, able to work independently and have a desire for community involvement.

  1. Work at multiple sites and serve as a Boy Scout leader and a Cubmaster. Strictly adhere to all BSA policies.
  2. Complete basic Scout leader trainings which includes Youth Protection, Leader's Specific and Hazardous Weather.
  3. Deliver weekly program for Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts as outlined in the program syllabus that includes lessons in character development, sportsmanship, outdoor skills, and family togetherness. Use other Scouting resources to deliver a quality program including, but not limited to the Cub Scout Handbooks, Boy Scout Handbook, and Merit Badge booklets.
  4. Work with Parents, teachers, school and community personnel.
  5. Organize, plan and recruit families to attend field trips and camp outings. Responsibilities include planning the trip, making permissions slips, distributing and collecting permission slips, recruiting parents to attend, calling parents to promote trip, leading the trip, and other duties as assigned. 
  6. Recruit and train parents to run various parts of the Scouting program.
  7. Communicate with families on a weekly basis through phone calls and email.
  8. Maintain records for unit attendance, medicals, emergency contact information, enter advancement achievement into online tracking sheet and other important documents.
  9. Conduct recruitment drives to recruit new youth to Scouting, arrange local community service projects and assist pack and troop with fundraising.
  10. Coordinate ordering and delivery of badges, uniforms, and other items from local Scout Shop. Plan recognition events to honor Scouts achievement.
  11. Arrive at each site at least 20 minutes prior to the announced start time prepared to deliver a fund and safe Scouting program. Never leave a program site until all youth have been picked up by the approved parent/guardian.
  12. Submit bi-monthly time sheet, monthly expense report and attend weekly team meeting.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Work experience with youth organization and some knowledge of working with volunteers
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Words, Excel and Power Point
  • Have own transportation and vehicle insurance
