The Area Lead for Shooting Sports will be responsible directly to the Leadership & Youth Development Director, reporting through the Recreation Program Lead. This position is primarily responsible for providing a safe, and high quality program while delivering great customer service in our Shooting Sports programs of the IROEC.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Oversees shooting sports program areas of BB Gun, and Archery by ensuring areas are clean, well-maintained, and are following required safety protocols for all participants and staff.
  • Plan and implement quarterly trainings for staff, and on an as needed basis according to new staff onboarding.
  • Conduct Facility safety checks and report necessary information to management.
  • Maintain inventory, assess repairs, and order program equipment for Shooting Sports through regular communication with Program Lead.
  • Ensure that safety and protocol are followed in accordance to American Camp Association and Boy Scouts of America.

In communications:

  • Establish sound working relationships with staff to provide a high quality program and friendly customer service.
  • Familiar with BSA and Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Operations.

In relations with the staff:

  • Assist the Leadership and Youth Development Director and Program Lead in designing comprehensive and high quality training sessions for staff members learning to operate Shooting Sports programs with their groups.
  • Be available to staff members seeking further practice with Shooting Sports program.
  • Ensure staff members are taking required breaks during work shift.
  • Conduct regular observations of staff operating Shooting Sports ranges and provide feedback on performance to Program Lead.
  • Maintain a climate that attracts and motivates a diverse staff of top qualified people.
  • Work closely with the Program Lead to support overall operations.

Other:

  • Must be able to stand outside for long periods of time, and able to withstand exposure to heat, cold, and wind.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and lift objects and equipment up to 35 lbs.
  • Create and post guidelines for all staff to refer to and follow while supervising Shooting Sport ranges.
  • Understand and follow protocol for emergency situations at Shooting Sports Program areas.
  • Request additional training opportunities (in-service) to be scheduled by OEC Program Leadership.
  • Share ideas for future program development of Shooting Sports programs with OEC Program Leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Experience in Shooting Sports and knowledge of inventory repair and replacement (required)
  • Current certification in Red Cross Adult & Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED. (required)
  • Recommended to be USA Archery Level 1/2/3 certified (desired, or able to successfully complete course upon hiring)
  • At least 21 years of age (desired)
  • Organized.
  • Customer oriented.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in an unstructured environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
