Ropes Course/ C.O.P.E. Lead
The Ropes Course Lead/Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (C.O.P.E.) Lead will be responsible directly to the Leadership and Youth Development Director, reporting through the Area Lead. This position is primarily responsible for providing a high quality program and great customer service in our recreational and leadership programs.
Primary responsibilities:
Maintain current certification as Level 2 COPE Climbing Instructor for Boy Scouts of America, or appropriate equal certification through ACCT or AMGCA on Ropes Courses.
Oversees Ropes Course program areas, including Low and High challenge course, Climbing Wall, and Zip Line ensuring areas are clean, safe, and well-maintained for our user groups for recreation, academic, and leadership programming. Communicate inventory and maintenance requests for program area to Area Lead.
Contribute to and lead Ropes Course training opportunities for staff members, including maintaining knowledge of staff in need of re-certification, refresher or onboarding training when schedule permits.
Ensure that safety and protocol are followed in accordance to American Camp Association and Boy Scouts of America.
In communications:
Establish sound working relationships with staff to provide a high quality program and friendly customer service. Familiar with BSA and Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Operations.
In relations with the staff:
Assist the Leadership and Youth Development Director and Program Lead in designing comprehensive and high quality training sessions for staff members regarding proper use of Ropes Course.
Be available to staff members seeking further practice with Ropes Course program protocol.
Conduct regular observations of staff facilitating program at Ropes Course and provide feedback on performance to Program Lead and Leadership Director.
Ensure staff members are taking required breaks during work shift.
Maintain a climate that attracts and motivates a diverse staff of top qualified people.
Work closely with the Area Lead and Program Lead to support overall operations.
Other:
Communicate with Area Lead about personnel or safety concerns, and equipment needs for safe programming.
Notify Leadership and Youth Development Director of misuse of, improper maintenance of, or safety concern on course by staff or participants.
Understand and follow protocol for emergency situations at Ropes Course.
Request additional training opportunities (such as in-service) to be scheduled by Leadership and Youth Development Director.
Share ideas for future program development of Ropes Course with Leadership and Youth Development Director. Other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications:
Former experience in operations of Ropes Course program.
At least 21 years of age.
Highly Desired: Currently certified as Ropes Lead Facilitator (BSA C.O.P.E. Level 2 or Challenge Course, Ropes Course by ACCT/AMGCA)
Organized.
Customer oriented.
Self-motivated with the ability to work in an unstructured environment.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Desired: Bilingual
